Have you ever had the urge to start your own business only to be stopped by the “what ifs” or the “why you shouldn’ts”? Fear has a way of setting in just as you think you’re ready to take the leap. Perhaps you haven’t yet made it past the quick burst of a business idea. As an aspiring entrepreneur, it’s time to stop dreaming and start doing for the following valid reasons:
1. You’ll let go of the “what ifs”
If you don’t go for it, you’ll always wonder whether or not you could’ve made it work. As of now, you may be having the “what if” thoughts running through your head, but fear is telling you to hold onto what you have; worrying that you may be off worse if you decide to follow your dreams of owning your own business.
2. You’ll never have to worry about getting laid off
These days, having compromised job security is quite common. None of us really know when we may be laid off, when the company will close down due to the current economy, or even if we’ll get fired for not complying with what everyone else wants us to do (just like our former finance minister). By owning your own business, you’ll never have to worry about those circumstances occurring. Yes, you’ll be responsible for your own income, but at least you’ll have full control over your own fate.
3. You’ll prepare for future generations
By working for a company, the career term will end with you. At least, by owning your own business, you can carry on the legacy by handing the business over to your children once you’re ready to step down. This will not only secure their future, but alleviate the burden of them having to find work somewhere once they graduated from high school.
4. You’ll gain financial independence
Working hand in hand with job security, gaining financial independence is a priceless entity. You can’t put a price on being able to write your own paycheck, knowing that how hard you work will reflect in your bank account at the end of the month. On the contrary, it doesn’t really matter how hard you work at a company, your paycheck will remain the same at the end of each working month.
5. You’ll be able to follow your passion
Currently, you may be stuck in a dead end job with no passion or interest in what you’re doing. It’s simply a paycheck in order to pay bills at the end of the month. Sadly, 70% of employees are unhappy at their current jobs. By having your own business, you’ll be able to follow your passion without regrets.
6. You’ll be able to create jobs
Currently, South Africa is struggling to provide jobs for the unemployed. With the high employment rate determining the future of our beloved country, it’s vital to create opportunities for those who simply can’t find jobs to join the workforce and contribute the wellbeing of the country.
7. You’ll be able to change the world
“The ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” – Steve Jobs. Never underestimate your position in this world. As small as you may be in retrospect to the rest of the continent or even planet, you’re still able to make a change in someone else’s life or in your industry.
